This piece was inspired by a quote written by one of my favorites writers, Warsan Shire. Achromatic means free from colour; transmitting light without colour-related distortion. Just like the word meaning, the quote describes the power of not losing yourself, not getting influenced by other people’s “light”, knowing what you are capable of.
“You want me to be a tragic backdrop so that you can appear to be illuminated, so that people can say ‘Wow, isn’t he so terribly brave to love a girl who is so obviously sad?’ You think I’ll be the dark sky so you can be the star? I’ll swallow you whole.” ― Warsan Shire On the A3 grey paper I used black and white gel pens, magazine paper, tempera colours, buttons, ink, watercolour pencils, gold paint and aluminium foil. |
